Introduction from Mick De’ath & Patsy Porter    Skip Introduction

"As Chief Instructors of the Hollies Shotokan Karate Club, it is our pleasure to welcome you."

Karate is a martial art which developed out of the traditions of Japan and has a long and noble history. It is one of the most accomplished fighting methods using all parts of the body as weapons. Karate is not merely a fighting technique. It is a martial art which aims toward the perfection of character through hard training of the mind and body in addition to the learning of techniques. Good karate can only be attained through hard work.

We practice SHOTOKAN karate which is an amalgamation of many different fighting styles from throughout south-east Asia founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi.

At Hollies SKC we stress the importance of true Karate spirit to our students and to this end emphasis is always placed on the development of the disciplines of Character. Sincerity, Effort, Etiquette and Self Control. All students have different abilities so progression is benchmarked by the individuals personal achievements.

The club has a wide range of members across all age groups, from junior through to senior. We have two, KUGB registered, Chief Instructors (see picture above) who share their skills and knowledge to encourage all students to achieve their potential in the art of  Shotokan Karate.

Originally founded at the Hollies SSC, Bucklesham, Ipswich. The club later moved to Coppleston School and then to its current Dojo at Whitehouse Community Primary School, Marlow Road, Ipswich.

We offer Shotokan Karate students 2-nights a week to train and perfect their skills with 2 Chief Instructors that have over 40 years of teaching experience between them.
